As a composer, its a real pleasure to work with professional musicians, such as
Richard Howarth, director of the Manchester
Sinfonia..
Conducting an orchestra isn’t simply about keeping time. The job of ensuring every musician in the orchestra is playing in time and at the correct dynamic and intonation requires significant skills. The conductor has to have an excellent knowledge of each instrument and to get the best out of each player in the orchestra in order to heighten the audience’s pleasure. Richard is such a conductor and I am fortunate to count him as one of mentors.
For me personally, Richard has been instrumental in my compositional development, by encouraging, critiquing and steering my work. Sadly Richard and I haven’t recorded anything together yet. However, as soon as a sponsor comes our way, this is one of the things we are both very keen to do.
