Thematically, THE TRANSFER explores the razor-thin line between our highest aspirations and our darkest natures. Six years after commitment to the Psychiatric Ward of the Sandy Ridge Correctional Institute for the murders of six family members, a prisoner is set for transfer to another facility due to the closing of Sandy Ridge. Stretched thin for remaining staff, the transfer is overseen by his prison doctor. The two men set out on a 500-mile drive across the desert southwest, the success of which is challenged by the conflicting and enigmatic natures of the two men, an encounter with a drifter couple, a detour to assist a bohemian woman stranded by the side of the road, and a small town sheriff who, despite having learned the value of going along to get along, still has fire in her belly.
